@weddingprocass: Etiquette always says that you should never be inviting someone to your bridal shower that is not invited to your wedding day. ❤️ #weddinganswer #weddingplanningtip #weddingtiktok #weddingplanning #weddingopinion
Wait, so do people expect gifts at the bridal shower AND the wedding from the same guest?

What if it’s against your will? lol i want one shower and I want to follow the you only invite those invited the wedding but my future mother in law is trying throw a groom side of the family shower and invite a ton of people not on the wedding list. I think it’s tacky and I don’t want people to think it’s us doing it for a gift grab.

Yeah it’s extremely tacky to ask for gifts and showers from people and not invite them. Ick

I attended a bridal shower that everyone from work was invited and it was organized by a different coworker but most of us were not invited to the wedding. And everyone was ok with that.

It depends on the situation. Work shower for a coworker, destination wedding or small family only wedding, a shower only invite is fine. If it's a decent size wedding and say 200 people are attending, it's kind of tacky and feels like a gift grab.

Personally I think 10 people (parents and siblings only) should still be called an elopement, in that case a bridal shower or wedding celebration where more friends and family can attend makes a lot of sense.

Don’t invite me to any pre-wedding events if I’m not invited to the wedding.

My partner and I went to a bridal shower for a cousin he hadn’t seen in like a decade a few months ago, we were initially not invited to the wedding (but his parents and sister/BIL were) but we got a gift from the registry and went to the shower. We honestly had the thought that they just wanted gifts but we went anyway bc his mom really wanted me to meet her family. The bride and groom were SO nice and came and talked to us and everything. Maybe a month after (which was maybe a month before the wedding) we got an invite to the wedding. We did end up going and it was pretty good. I think it’s tough either way.

It also depends on the context. The church I grew up at would throw wedding showers and invite the entire congregation, but the bride was not expected to invite them all to the wedding

We had two ‘surprise’ bridal showers; one held by my mother-in-law and her friends at the German club, with all extended family from my husband’s side , (over 60 people!), and one by the ladies from my church with all of my extended family (over 80 people!), and there is no way we could have invited all of them to our wedding - we wouldn’t have fit in the venue! I think, though, that in 1991 things were different, and proper etiquette stated that you couldn’t host your own shower, and that your own mother couldn’t host it either. So, everyone who came just wanted to wish us well and celebrate us, knowing that they weren’t on the guest list for the wedding. And the amazing thing is that they all brought food and gifts and a good time was had by all.

Is it acceptable to have a smaller ceremony with immediate family, but invite everyone to the reception?

I went to a wedding shower/engagement party and not the wedding. It was a destination wedding, I did get an invite but it was to a resort that was way beyond my price point. Glad I was able to go to the party they had that was closer by

As a bride, I did note how many people didn’t rsvp to my shower, and didn’t mail them invites. It wasn’t to be petty but the venue was small and if you can’t do me the courtesy of RSVPing (not by letter but a text, convo, or phone call would be fine) and being ok with me stressing about whose going to show up on the big day, you aren’t going to have the option of going to the big day.

One of my Aunts threw a wedding shower for me a couple of months after the wedding, we had been married right after Christmas, small wedding and many were out of town. It was perfect

Now if someone can’t come to the wedding. Would you still invite them? My aunt had another wedding an my cousins were in the wedding party. But she still came to the showers

What if the couple is planning to have a smaller / private ceremony but then invite friends / extended family to the reception immediately after so that they are included in the day but the ceremony stays private

I’m the only in the world that would rather do a bridal shower than a wedding 😂 slip in eat some cake and butter mints and then bounce once my gift is opened 🤣

I guess to me there two groups: something like work - were it might be well known and people who you interact with regularly or something like relatives who are unable to come age/disability to something like a destination wedding but would like to be involved

Also I think if you are clear you just would love to celebrate a step towards the wedding with them-no gift obligation, they can open it up

If its been well communicated I would still be happy to be invited to events around the wedding if I wasn't invited to the day itself. BUT they would need to be close family or friends. I'd see it as a cash grab even with good communication if I was distant and knew I'd be evening only if they were having a bigger wedding.

if you're honest about it, it depends on your circle of friends. Another situation where it could work is where some people are local and can't be at the wedding for reasons (kid free, destination, away from town) and they still want to celebrate you, it would be fine ❤️
