I went back to reading fanfics and now books that are ”slowburn” are VEEERY NOT slow burn anymore, the writing is lacking imo. I don’t think I’ll be going back to reading books unless it’s a series I’ve already stared

The Good War and The Odds Were Never in My Favour are both in my opinion way better Harry Potter books than Harry Potter. And Odds if you remove any HP can essentially be its own stand alone magic series

I have read some of the absolute best literature on Ao3 and Wattpad that have had me sobbing at 2am. And have stopped reading a published book, 1 chapter in, and questioned how they got it published.

i made a point to only ever use fanfiction to illustrate literary devices and techniques in classes i taught. (with the writer’s permission of course) there was far more material to work with and very often far superior examples of what we were discussing too. i’ve never been that person who acts like fic is something we need to be hush hush about or ashamed of

That's what happened to me. I read a 4K fanfic and it has the best character development without straying from canon, the best plot, fight scenes, and romance, and a beautiful writing style. I can't look at the original book the same way anymore. To me, the book seems like a cheap copy, and the original couple from the book just doesn't work in my head anymore.
