I just signed my husband up for hospice today. I've been a caregiver since I was 18. I'm 42 now. I stopped working for a company to care for my dad full time before he passed in 2018. Then this year my husband's health took a turn. I'm emotional. This shit is hard.

I had a somewhat similar experience. I had to retire early due to a cd accident and when I did I ended up taking care of my mom every day. She could care for herself but she wanted to be out of the house. My dad had died 4 years earlier. Mom and I really never got along-we butted heads on everything. She was much more critical of me, than my 2 sisters. After about 7ish years of this I had to stop. I started seeing a therapist and gradually reduced the time I spent with her. My mental health to a hit and my family was suffering. Absolutely imperative to care for yourself.🩷

I brought my 92 yr old dad from PA to my home in MA because he was falling…. It was an unbelievable experience…. He passed away feb of this year…. He was A HANDFUL! He spent his life taking only care of himself, yet i felt compelled to help. Even though I KNEW he was going to be a handful….It was HARD! But I did have resources to help me and in the end, I’m happy I did…. I just LOVE you and your content, thank you🙏🏻🥰

I spent 20 years as a nurses aid and when I met my husband he didn't like my mental state when I would come home. So we decided that I was done. 18 years as a housewife and I would never go back.

Great advice! We always forget to take care of ourselves. And it’s ok to back away and choose yourself first!

I have been a CNA for 25 plus years and it is listening to metal music, laughing and more relaxing choices that helps out like meditation. I would not change my life path for anything, as these elderly people become part of our families.

So I was a caregiver for her people with disabilities in their home for many years, and I continued to do that even when my husband was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the same time, I was also going to school and I burned my wicked both ends while in school. I created a community group for caregivers didn’t matter if they were caring for their family members or for other individuals in our community is a tough tough job and it takes a real strong individual with a lot of compassion and empathy to do the job May I suggest to any all caregivers to see if you can gather others that understand and get together at least once a week over coffee or whatever because nobody else will understand unless they’ve been there and it really helped me a lot
