Addressing some of the comments/jokes here - ironically this whole "British food incredibly bad" thing was started ironically with kindness of war time British families sharing their meager rations with the american GIs cos they were so grateful the americans had finally stepped into help after years (ameroca stayed out of the war charging uk tons for food and weapons while uk fought the facist nazi and freed jews from gas chambers, the families left on the home front lived off barely nothing "rations" they were called), the workign class american soliders god rest their souls didnt understand that british food wasnt like that all the time so wrote home saying there food was bland and terrible, and that sterotype continued in usa then spread worldwide. Traditional british food is often the food of the humble hardworking working class like the cornish pasty taken down mines by miners who worked from the age of 4-5yrs not every english person is descended from the rich very few are about 1% the rest of us come from humble working class backgrounds ppl who worked hard their whole life in greulling conditions this was the food they loved pasties etc cos it kept them going and ti was what they had ❤️beautiful really. but uk culniary has certainly evolved since ww2 in the last 100 years we have perfectly brilliant lvoely food and restaurants, but yeh maybe still many of us hold a place in our hearts for the working class food of our ancestors too ❤️

A simple thing like tea can boost morale and lead to victory. I wish employers understood this

Yeah in the north of England in particular corned beef is still popular. I live in the south and I’ve never even tried it. But I remember when I was a young kid my nan, who was in the women’s army during ww2, used to give me tinned peas when I went to her house for dinner. They’re sweeter than frozen garden peas and actually got me into liking peas when I was at that refusing to eat veg stage.

I’d also like to know sometimes soldiers would have hot meals in their mess tins two piece construction, and Apple wrapped up in a face cloth within the bread bag there would also be of course the canned rations also in the other side of the mess there would be sometimes a a sandwich with a little bit of canned beef on it

so, from what I understand this is a western thearte Meal. during the burma theatre this would change, especially feild meals, now compo did make it into burma during the first operation, but into the the second operation, this was swapped over to the American K ration
