@tave.larocque: day 23 of the @higherupwellness speak your mind challenge. everyone knows the story of icarus. he flew too close to the sun, his wings melted, and he fell. and everyone takes the same lesson from it: don't be arrogant, don't fly too high. but they forget the other half of the warning, and it might be the more important one. in the actual myth, his father daedalus gave him two instructions, not one. yes, don't fly too high, the sun will melt the wax. but also, do not fly too low, because the sea will soak your wings and drag you down. fly the middle course. both extremes kill you. we only ever repeat the first warning. be humble, don't reach too far. nobody ever says the second one: don't play it so safe that you sink. and that's strange, because far more people die flying too low than too high. they never risk anything. they never reach. they call it being realistic, being careful, and they spend an entire life skimming just above the water, slowly getting dragged under, telling themselves they're the smart ones because at least they didn't burn. flying too high might kill you. but flying too low will kill you. #icarus #greekmythology #philosophy #mindset
