It might be interesting to see a breakdown of which denomination each gender claims to currently or previously belong to, & break out the non-denominational churches by some theological criteria or scism history. The overall trend is interesting, but granular data would give a more accurate read. As a personal aside: I'm a *very* lapsed Catholic, but I still meditate on things that speak to me. I also occasionally pray for the dead in private, as God intended - I may be a convert but I have some dignity 😁.

you've probably covered this but...one factor could be the shifting cultural gender power dynamics in western society which has been forcing men to grapple with their masculine identity; some feel it's a loss of their role and so turn to something that promises to give that back in the form of the communal traditional structures with men as head of the house/community as many churches follow. why now? maybe it has to do with an idea of male exceptionalism being threatened, a general loneliness because of that, while the political powers push religion and traditionalism as a solution. the political wins makes it more appealing and feels comforting and reliable to some of these men. but I can't imagine that will last, as the political pendulum will likely swing (due to women and dieing churches in general) and will highlight the burden that gender dominance has had across western society more clearly, especially if/when the Epstein class falls.
