@instituteofhumananatomy: 🧠 When a stroke hits, not all brain tissue dies at once — and that window of survivable tissue is everything. Think of a blocked blood vessel like a highway traffic jam. The brain tissue at the core of the blockage dies fast — within minutes. But surrounding it is the ischemic penumbra — tissue that's struggling but still alive, where blood flow is reduced but not completely cut off. This tissue can still be saved if blood flow is restored within 4.5 to 6 hours — and sometimes up to 24. That's why getting to the ER fast matters enormously, even if it's been more than a few minutes. Every minute counts. ⏱️ The most commonly blocked artery during an ischemic stroke? The middle cerebral artery — which supplies the areas of the brain controlling motor function, sensation, and language. That's why classic stroke symptoms include: ⚠️ One-sided weakness or paralysis 🗣️ Trouble speaking 👁️ Vision loss 🖐️ Diminished sensation The brain is racing against the clock. Recognizing the signs early saves lives.
