My nans and mums recipe never measure anything.. soak bread in water, add 2 eggs, mixed spice,mixed dried fruit, sugar, and suet ... mix all together , never press down , cook slow for about 2 hours. comes out moist and just sprinkle with sugar.

My family don't use milk. We put the bread in a colander and make it moist under a tap, squeeze the excess water out, tip it into a bowl & then do the rest of the process adding mixed fruit, sugar, mixed spice etc. No butter needed. Different families, different techniques
