Thirty years ago, a young physician sat with patients struggling with obesity and realized something uncomfortable. In this conversation, Matthias Tschöp describes the moment that set the course for his career. The options available at the time were essentially two: tell patients to eat less and move more, or refer them for gastric bypass surgery. That was it. As Matthias explains, the advice to eat less and move more isn't new. It goes back to Hippocrates. And on an epidemiological level, it hasn't worked then, and it isn't working now. For someone trained in neuroendocrinology and watching patients struggle in real time, that gap was impossible to ignore. Medicine had figured out remarkable therapies for so many diseases. But with obesity, the field was, in his words, capitulating. That realization became a starting point. Tune into the full conversation, out now on all major streaming platforms. ▶️ youtube.com/@The.Living.Room.Podcast #TheLIVINGRoomPodcast
