On a regular day, on my way to feed dogs in this area… I came across this little guy. This isn’t a place dogs just wander into. There are no houses around. No reason for him to be here. And with how skinny he was… I knew he was dumped. As soon as I pulled over, he panicked and ran straight into an irrigation pit… disappearing into a hole filled with running water. I tried to get him to come out with food, but he was too scared. So I made a plan to come back that same night to trap him. Before I left, I laid down some sheets I had in my car… hoping if he made it out, he’d have something dry to lay on. It was cold, windy. When I came back that night, I saw him curled up in a tight ball on the sheets. That moment hit me hard. Because it meant he came out of that water, cold, alone… and found the only bit of comfort he could. I moved in slowly while he was sleeping, got the slip lead ready… and was able to secure him. He fought it at first, scared and unsure… but then he settled. He realized I wasn’t there to hurt him. This boy was failed by humans… but he still chose to trust. Now he’s safe. Dominic has trauma in one of his eyes from an old incident and will need it removed. He is currently being fostered by my partners, Kim and Mark.
