yes i feel like people really internalize “attachment styles” are a part of their identity and really latch onto that. Your brain is a muscle, you can absolutely work on changing your patterns. We are all so nuanced and dynamic, reducing ourselves to attachment I believe keeps you stuck

it's so odd because if a parent had a very anxious attachment to their children (obsessively texting when they went out, implying their kid doesn't care about them, needing their child to reassure them that they're not a bad parent, secretly resenting their children) people wouldn't question the idea that it's harmful, or that it's an expression of controlling the unknown. both anxious and avoidant parents can be understood to express emotionally abusive behaviors. but somehow these anxious behaviors expressed by a friend or a romantic partner is framed as morally "good" while the avoidant one is "bad"

Ive been anxious and avoidant, but i hate how people act like anxious attachment is just loving someone too much. Even if you do everything right, because they feel unsafe within themselves it will always project onto you and something you did that triggered the insecurity within themselves

100%!!!! You see it so much of it being portrayed as necessity relationship needs - where if the anxiety can't be comforted by the partner then they're not doing their job. It's not a good portrayal

yesss! i’ve been saying this! im very much an avoidant but i was an anxious girlie before and they both feel Similar in terms of triggers, it’s more the response to the triggers that differs. i think people forget we should all be aiming for a secure attachment style

Yes!! As a psychology obsessed anxious girly I can see how I'm also just as wrong as him, and I've had to stop talking about it to my friends because they all justify what I do and blame him, but they don't get it! Yeah he's wrong, but so am I and people (and social media) keep trying to protect my feelings, telling me that "you're too good for him because you won't give up on love and that makes you better than his selfish ass!!", but I feel like they're making it worse because they don't leave space for me to grow and reflect on my toxic anxious behavior
