I’m so worried that the universe and reality are beyond our comprehension and that even this question of the void vs. heaven is not getting at base reality

I’m so grateful for how you articulate thoughts, I have been thinking about this for a while as I wrestle with nihilism and it’s so helpful to hear you articulate it so clearly!

Don't you think doubt brings us closer to the truth than nihilism? A state of cynicism would be the true opposite of faith. Nihilism is just a pretty way of saying that nothing matters. When the meaningless cosmos created life forms that seek meaning in life.

So, the answer to both is skepticism that engages with meaning in the world. We should be critically thinking our way toward seeing meaning and value, engaging with it but not fabricating it because we are so afraid to have our sources of meaning questioned.

what does it mean if you having panic attacks, hearing voices in your head , thinking people are going to leave and thinking you'll have bad luck and waking up in the middle of the night consistently

I don't think faith only exists because of fear of the implication of nihilism. I think some people genuinely feel as though there is a deity and it is watching over them.

N Shackleton-Jones, author :
I would suggest that all faith is a form of subservience: a worship of something greater. The ‘something greater’ is the source of meaning. But nihilism is only one alternative: the other is not to serve. To become a source of meaning oneself, or to derive it from our community.

All doubt leads to nihilism or the less negatively connotative term, nothingness. Why? Because skepticism ultimately doubts the last doubt itself and all of a sudden you find yourself in a floating state of dis-orientation.

It’s why all religions see atheists as the enemy. You can believe in another God, that isn’t as scary as there being no God.
