Chevy didn’t use cabin air filters from 2003 to 2014 when they permanently implemented the cabin air filters from 2014 to current model pickups.

The older Ford trucks were the same way. The vent is directly under the windshield cowl and funnels dirt into it. We removed the wiper cowl and glued screen on top.

As an HVAC tech this scares the heck of me. And we all drive Chevy expresses which don’t have cabin air filters either, so I’m even more scared

First gen tundras never got one. Also never needed an evaporator. It’s all about the quality of the evaporator itself.
