There are barely stand out, elite level, players in the modern game. 20-25 years ago? Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, Paulo Maldini, Allesandro Del Piero, Andres Iniesta, Wayne Rooney, Francesco Totti, Gabriel Batistuta, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Clarence Seedorf, Pavel Nedved, Marc Overmars, Emanuel Petit, Nicholas Anelka, Samuel Eto'o, Luis Figo, Andrea Pirlo, Andrey Shevchenko, Alan Shearer... I could go on and on, from this generation I can barely think of three.
