@aestheticallyashleyrn: 6 months ago, my husband almost died from an aortic dissection. I was likely hours from losing him, and it all came with little to no symptoms. This was our experience, but for many it is fatal. Read to see what symptoms to pay attention to so that you are aware in case you or a loved one experience them. Thank you so much to Dr. Pak, our surgeon, and the entire team at @Saint Luke’s for going above and beyond to save JD’s life with their skill and quick action. This is helpful and makes me feel less like I’m crazy. I have all of this same pain and was told it’s nothing.

Thank God your husband survived. Was it a tpye A aorta dissection? My father just went through this, he had a Stanford Type B aortic dissection, mid May of this year. He was fine laying in bed one night and all of sudden he felt sharp stabbing pains in his upper back, between his shoulder blades. he finally had surgery end of June and is recovering well. He didn't have to have open heart surgery, but he did get about 4 stents through femoral arteries and one through his arm. He does have high BP and diabetic which he wasnt even aware of the diabetes until the dissection , and we got involved. He would go to his medical appointments/checkups and was told everything looked fine, but now that we've looked through his medical records there was lots that could of helped to maybe prevent the torture he experienced or at least make sure BP and diabetes was controlled. We highly recommend advocate for yourself and your family. Even after dissection, pcp did not think he needed a referral to a cardiologist. But we kept calling specialist office. Finally a nurse , from another procedure he was going to have helped with getting things done. otherwise we would still be waiting for a follow-up, which they had said it would be in August.
