@it.secure.tech: The “New Solution” that was supposed to make everyone’s life easier… 🫠 What is your favorite Tech solution fail? #IThumor #MSP #ITsupport #TechTok #SmallBusinessIT
Had a department buy software without any notice that required me to build 3 servers to support it - on my back about getting it done ASAP because they NEEDED it. I busted my ass to get it in place for them and then watched that application sit unused for 3 years until the license expired.

When I was a youngster I was advised, get as close to the money flow as you can if you want the cash. I chose otherwise.

Our CFO had a meeting with an MSP without in-house IT because she wanted new servers. She didn’t realize we only have camera servers, a domain controller and DNS on-site. We still don’t know what servers she was trying to upgrade.

My current feelings. Context, I am the ITSM platform owner. Someone else has decided their team will be doing all training on my platform from now on without consulting me for materials or content. It’s not going well.

What gets me is they test stuff like this IN PRODUCTION like why don’t we actually TEST stuff and give us RESOURCES before it goes live as if we aren’t supporting the new solution lol

When MBAs think they can run IT, and they do but into the ground. I once advised them to replace old degraded HDDs if they wanted to save money and still maintain performance. They proceeded to purchase underpowered computers and disposed of the old ones. Apparently they didn’t know what RAM or a CPU did.

Cloud migration. We lifted and shifted a product from on-prem to public cloud. Even after rebuilding EVERY service to be public cloud optimized, our annual spend was 14x the cost of on-prem.

I manage a data center and this is my life. No one tells us nothing but yet equipment shows up on the loading dock with no information. Them weeks later someone emails asking if we received said equipment. Then the next question is can we install it now. No meeting no design documentation not cabling matrix but yet I have to get it on asap.

IT adjacent here, my department was asked to "supervise" while the building maintenance department electrician and his helpers added a Starlink dish for backup. It isn't connected to anything but a single laptop, added a new Wi-Fi said and network that is now interfering with the main one, and the fish sure 4 feet higher than the building's lightning rods. We're in a thunderstorm prone area. 🤣 Not our circus, not our monkeys.

We had a remote site who decided thatbthey were going to remodel, cut out existing wiring, and change the orientation of a room without contacting IT or AV. They let us know AFTER construction was done, walls were up, concrete was poured, etc. We laughed. They had their wire drop hanging inbthe middle of the room. They saud that they "only needed a tv and computer". didn't think about adding speakers abd wiring to the newly built renovation. They also didn't put in any conduit or any means to get wiring to their new podium location. My boss and i literally laughed at them. And the go live date has already passed. You couldn't have put on on a c130 with a pallet full of equipment and got it sorted out. because again.. concrete floor.. no walls near the podium, etc. Not sure what they ended up doing. But not my problem. 🤷♂️🤣
