Having had encounters with Gold Star Lesbians, I've learned they're all elitist snobs who look down on other lesbians who didn't realize they were gay at like age 10. Gold stars are all biphobic towards bi woman and I have yet to meet a Gold star who wasn't a huge TERF who hated trans woman. Being a Gold Star lesbian doesn't make them better, it makes them privileged and they refuse to acknowledge that same privilege isn't afforded to all lesbians either.

when my aunt was pregnant with her son she had a meltdown saying how she "wasn't a gold star anymore" and my mom had to break it to her that she had boyfriends in highschool and college and her first child (a daughter) was conceived through intercourse and so she hadn't been a gold star lesbian for over 20 years. it's a weird mentality and she had to go to therapy about it to even be ok with having a child who is male and acknowledge that her past experiences does not invalidate her sexuality.

I feel like the expansion of queer identities and slang into complex and arbitrary things in general just causes discourse and upset. It makes sense when queer terminology is brought about for clarity or shorthand or subtlety, but the creation of it to cause social alteration in a negative direction, does in fact cause social alteration in a negative direction, which a lot of people don’t seem to think of. I don’t think if, as in this example, ‘gold star gay/lesbian’ was an existing term, that it’d even be much of a consideration for most of those who use it
