Koa was found alone and vulnerable, discarded as a stray on the streets at only a year old. Even more devastating was the state of his mouth. His entire muzzle had been ripped open and was hanging in unrecognizable shreds. In a heinous act of cruelty, someone had deliberately placed an #explosive in his mouth, inflicting unimaginable pain and trauma. The barbarity of his case is beyond comprehension, and the terror Koa must have felt in those moments is unbearable to imagine. As soon as we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Our team rushed Koa to the hospital, where he underwent emergency reconstructive surgery, fighting to reclaim what was so violently taken from him. The procedure was complex, and Koa’s condition was critical, but the veterinary team remained optimistic. Thankfully, he made it through surgery, but he still has a VERY long recovery ahead of him. We aren’t just healing Koa’s body, but his mind as well, rebuilding his trust in the world that failed him most horrifically. Koa is a survivor, and though the scars will remain, the love and care he now receives offer a flicker of hope for the future. This act of cruelty nearly robbed Koa of his life, but we can still restore the puppyhood lost in the aftermath of the abuse. Your support is vital to Koa’s ongoing recovery.
