I went to a nutritionist for like a year to help with my bad eating habits. She didn’t seem to care much about if my vegetables were frozen or canned or fresh or plucked from a garden by own hands. She just cared that I was eating them regularly.

food is soooo exhausting honestly even as someone who doesn’t have a kid constantly having to figure out how to get enough nutrients in a day is so tough

Just want to echo fed is best. My dietitian is constantly reminding me that even if I take the kids to McDonald’s every once in a while because I’m exhausted (I have a medical condition that causes a lot of pain and fatigue), it’s still a win because the kids ate! I’m not saying don’t think at all about providing nutritious/a variety of foods or whatever, but the stress doesn’t help you either. You can balance it out later. If the kid eats, you’ve done your job!

Psh. Canned is fine. Frozen is fine. Fresh is fine. Know what's best? Feeding your kid. Even if it is peanut butter crackers and oat bars until she gets bored of it. Seriously. We rotated the same 7 meals every week- Monday hit dogs, Tuesday rice bowls, Wednesday chicken nuggets, Thursday pasta, Friday pizza, Saturday and Sunday, leftovers Every week. Do what works for you and doesn't stress you out. ❤️

I am right there with you. have you heard the phrase "fed is best". typically it is used to remind parents that it doesn't matter if your baby is eating formula or breast milk as long as they are eating. which is true. but I like to use this phrase for myself and my older children too. when I obsess over whether things are healthy enough, it honestly becomes dangerous for me. what I mean is I would end up starving myself rather than just eating something that isn't considered "healthy".I don't always have the time or energy to make a balanced perfect meal. eating instant ramen and some added veggies is better than starving. same sentiment pushing something super nutritious on your toddler and not giving them what they want won't be healthy if they refuse to eat.

one time I made purées for my twins with canned vegetables and I got hundreds of comments talking about “why would you use canned vegetables” and “at that point just buy jarred food.” We couldn’t afford all the jars necessary for two infants because we were spending $900 a month on their formula, and we made just over the threshold to qualify for gov assistance. Canned veggies and blending was the best we could do at the time. I still think about that often

Honestly a vegetable’s a vegetable, especially with toddlers. If my kids want to drown their raw carrots in ranch? Cool, they’re still eating their carrots. My kids were all about salsa for a while, and I counted that as eating their vegetables.

Last night my kids had Mac and cheese and blueberry muffins. It was that or they didn’t eat at dinner time. Sometimes it’s about filling bellies. Sometimes it’s time to try and expand the palate and new things.

There's nothing wrong with canned or frozen vegetables AT ALL. My daughter doesn't eat anything outside of her specific, safe foods after I spent her entire early toddlerhood giving her a more diverse food experience than I have ever experienced because that just shut down at 20 months. Is your child eating as balanced a diet as you can get her to eat with enough calories for her to grow? Awesome, you're doing great.

I feel this so much, and one of my kids got diagnosed with celiac at age 4, and the other had feeding issues from birth. I’m so tired of food.

When I was single I made a casserole and ate it all week. With kids, when my husband was working late, and so I had to cook, they got a lot of kid friendly, but not the healthiest food. They are grown and now have varied pallets and are healthy. Fed is best and unless there are specific dietary needs, enjoy your kids more than hate the feeding process.

Oh my friend- I hear you. My daughters are 18 and 24.. the differences between the pediatric food business/ culture and care giver shaming is ridiculous!!! It starts in utero and I won’t even go to the body image and food worries that plagued my Mom brain starting at 11 maybe? I HATE thinking about food!!!! Sending all the love🥰

I just want to say that meal planning for my kids for the last 12 years has given me an ED. Or I already had one and now its worse, idk. But I hate it so much, I hate meal planning so much and I do it all alone. So over it.

I’m growing food in my front yard and I can tell you unless you’re on a farm you probably won’t even get enough food without a full long term investment 😭 food is food, from the grocery store or the food pantry or from the garden. I hate thinking about food so much, nobody in the house wants to think about it and I’m rarely an I inspired to make a whole meal when I know my kid would rather eat ramen 🫠

When I had my first I did a little googling, and actually, canned and frozen produce tend to be cleaner than any fresh produce you buy. They go through several washing processes before they’re packaged and we did a LOT of both when my kids were little.

I definitely feel like food was my number one stressor about my daughter. Wishing you the best - there is no way our parents thought this hard but also because there wasn’t so much available to have to decide and pick from. They definitely gave us whatever vegetables and protein they had in their culture or what they liked.

My kids are now 15 and 13. Oat bars and peanut butter crackers are one of our go tos still. Along with instant ramen, poptarts, muffins, and all the other things people scream about. 🤣 Fed is best. 💓 Canned corn is great. Throw some butter in 😁
