This can happen to anyone, please be careful! (I’ve made so many videos about this, but of course, the one that blew up is the one with the least context, I explained in the comments when i first posted but I didn’t realise I could change my caption after so heres more details) I’m so incredibly grateful to be in a position today, where I can pay my bills without struggling, but my energy provider threw a random debt of over £3K onto my monthly payment last month, upping my direct debit X 3, I live in a small flat on my own, my current usage doesn’t reflect this bill, but my supplier said if I don’t pay it, it could affect my credit. I refused to pay without investigation and put all payments on hold to prevent that. I’m stressed and scared but like I said I’m incredibly fortunate in my position, this was a choice for me. Most people can’t turn off the heating to avoid overcharges, the vulnerable, parents with children, elderly etc, they still have to pay these insane prices, and the debts on top by these predatory corporations. And even if they can turn off the heating, why should anyone have to live in these conditions? Heating shouldn’t be a luxury. It happens ALL TOO OFTEN, It’s disgusting and isn’t talked about enough. It can happen to anyone! The cost of living crisis in this country is not fair, we should be able to trust our suppliers, it shouldn’t be heat or eat. Even without random debts being thrown at people the energy bills are overpriced, it’s robbery. Fighting these massive corporations takes up peoples time and energy for sometimes months & years. It’s exhausting and people don’t have guidance or know where to start at tackling this. Netizens have been so helpful in my comments sharing what they did in my situation, offering guidance to others as well. I will be leaving resources, charities and communities below for those that need it or just want to help. Please keep track of all of your usage, from every year, only pay for what you use! Charity names/resources: Turn2us - Step change - Money advice trust - Independent Food aid network - National energy action - Acorn. Communities: Join a FB group called energy support and advice UK, also dontpayuk is a movement to join too!
