I never understood why the price would go up on short supply. I mean sure, they might want to avoid empty shelves, but I mean that's more greed than actually increased cost of production.
The only real reason to increase the price is when you add quickly manufacturing facilies to cope with demand and thus the production of your products on average will increase, because quick construction is always more expensive.
But this doesn't explain 7 x price increase while still having a shortage.
