@kendolllly: this actually happened to me when a close mentor of mine unexpectedly passed in middle school. it’s like i had to force myself to cry that entire day because i felt nothing. i thought i was heartless. but then later i had a meltdown #neurodivergent #neurospicy #autism #MentalHealthAwareness
I fake the expected emotion upon news and deal with actual emotions later. Makes it less difficult in the long run

my problem is the out of site out of mind. and if that person did not really have an active role in my current life I already have a disconnect. even if it was a grandparent. the other thing too is if a family member was gravely ill I already started processing that before everyone else so when it happened it was not shocking news.

I didn’t breakdown over my father’s death until his wake. I was too busy managing everyone else’s grief and planning the funeral.

i also feel pressured to have an emotional reaction when i’m not very outwardly emotional anyway - so the emotions come out when i’m alone instead.

Took me about a month to actually cry about my grandpa passing. I knew I was sad but I couldn’t really process it because I was joking my way through grief

yes it might even take months for the numbness to wear off and to feel like crying

when my grandfather passed away, I just kind of... had a Sheldon reaction? I just. Okay. his heart stopped. he is deceased. now he will be buried and eventually decompose. im so glad my silence was taken as grief because truth was, I didn't know how to react.

I've learned that I conceptualize the feelings at first and then actually process the emotions 2 to 3 business years later 😅

It took me a while to understand my grandmother's death; it took me a while to feel anything. I only cried when I was hugged once, and when I saw her in the coffin. With my other grandmother, I didn't even cry; I imitated my cousins.
