I've just thought. if they had gotten romantic before the end there would have been a weird undercurrent because Syd was still idolising him underneath the obvious flaws she noted. by the end of this series Syd realises shes just as good. the idolisation turns into equal admiration. I vote that maybe they got together after what we saw. Imo they wrote their ending well
