I used to do this during my really bad depressive episodes; I’d shower in all my clothes in the completely dark and listen to sad music, cry for a little bit, then I’d feel performative bc wtf am I doing? And then I’d get out and feel better bc I knew I was doing too much

I made a rule for myself that I’m not allowed to be impulsive after the sun goes down. If I want to reach out to someone I’m no-contact with, spend $200 on a dress, join a circus, etc., I have to wait until the next morning. The urge almost always disappears. Something about it being nighttime makes me wanna act up. 🤐

I put my whole bedroom in my living room and my living room in my bedroom. It was EXHAUSTING, got all the chaos out and I actually really liked it. I didn’t keep it forever but it gave me a few months of “weird house” chaos

I usually go on random walks. Turn my phone off, get out the mp3 player, and just walk in a random direction until I get tired. If I find something cool along the way I check it out. Last time I was out for 4 hours and saw a deer. It helps me get some exercise and get out of my head a bit and because I go out with no plan I can kinda trick myself into thinking I'm "running away" when in reality I'm gonna head home and have a lil snack after lol

I feel like it’s probably a different instinct than this is talking about, but in general I get the urge to just, not be a typical person. In a way that I think drives a lot of people insane eventually because they never rail against it, so I try to frequently rail against those constraints in little ways. Sit down in the middle of a place, because I can. Climb onto something you don’t usually climb on. Get in a corner and look at a room from a unique perspective. Just little things to remember and experience that you’re a completely autonomous person with no actual rules about what you are capable of or allowed to do. I think a lot of us drive ourselves crazy by wearing a straight jacket of expected behaviors. And I think it’s really healthy and healing to shed that jacket frequently and stretch. And there’s lots of things like this, including the one described in the video.
