I think that’s an interesting take but I interpreted it as her trying to reclaim power in a powerless situation. She had been terrified of being a single mum, assuming it meant failure and buying into the patriarchal narrative that single mums are worthless, leftovers, no one wants you. Her take is still rooted in patriarchy because she admits herself that she is still very dependent on the male gaze for validation, but at the end of the essay when she gets congratulated by her lawyer for going through with the divorce, she realises she is her own power. So the asides about her friends are more self referential reflecting the desperate space she was in before where she took every breadcrumb that she was still hot as validation that was worthy, but at the end she realises her worth is in her demanding better for herself. But I also don’t think it’s super clear, you can interpret that essay many ways which is why everyone is talking about it.

Tbf she said her friends wanted to be married. She didn’t say they wanted her relationship. She then said it’s not worth it with the wrong guy. Why is everyone picking her apart

the SA was about her process figuring herself out after her divorce, she wasnt writing a guide or tutorial how to conduct yourself.

"you wouldn't get married if that's what you wanted to do" I semi disagree with this. I think society conditions people to think marriage is the epitome of adult life so people engage with it yet subconsciously crave the "wild, carefree life of single people"
_
This is why married people cheat so much

Thus is an essay about her experience right? She could find in her experience that that was the case 🤷🏽♀️
