I turned my matte helmet into something shiny with leaf gold ✨ Did you know u can apply leaf gold onto your props and costumes? Well, u do now. Ever since I first tried leaf gold instead of the regular paints like chrome autopaints and acrylics i‘m a fan. It takes a LONG TIME but it‘s 100% worth it. It does not fade, does not get matt over time. It is just glowing. I love it. There are a few things to keep in mind: • having a gold base is USEFUL. The gold is gonna get slight cracks as you apply it, if your base is let‘s say black, then those creaces gonna be black. So have a gold base. The cheapest gold spray paint will do. • use adhesive and varnish that is MEANT TO BE for leaf gold. And only that. You can get it in set on amazon. Even comes with a brush. • only apply the glue on ONE SECTION AT A TIME. Not the whole thing. U apply glue, let it get clear (dry) and apply gold. And repeat this process. • the gold is SUPER FRAGILE, and once it makes contact it sticks forever. Thats why I use tweezers. BE CAREFUL • the process will look LIKE A MESS. And your work area too. You have to brush away all the little flakes that occur at the joints. TRUST ME IT WILL LOOK GOOD. Don‘t brush too heavily, otherwise you gonna scratch it and loose the shine. • Once u done and there is no more gold flakes falling off your prop/costume whatever , u can apply THE VARNISH. On the whole thing and let it dry. THIS IS CRUCIAL before u do anything else. PROTECT THE GOLD. • u can apply oil paints or acrylics for weathering, i prefer oil paints. Do only the crevices to keep as much of the shine as humanly possible. IT IS NOT FOR THE WEAK. But once you get the hang of it, it‘s pretty relaxing and if you read all this you probably good anyways!
