@nclex_bootcamp: ❤️ ECG Interpretation NCLEX Review ECG interpretation is one of the highest-yield topics on the NCLEX. Before identifying dysrhythmias, you need to know what a normal ECG waveform looks like. Here's what each part represents: • P wave: Atrial depolarization • PR interval (0.12 to 0.20 sec): AV node conduction delay • QRS complex (<0.12 sec): Ventricular depolarization • ST segment: Early ventricular repolarization • T wave: Ventricular repolarization • QT interval (0.34 to 0.43 sec): Total ventricular depolarization and repolarization Follow these 6 steps to interpret any rhythm: 1. Calculate the heart rate. 2. Determine if the rhythm is regular or irregular. 3. Assess the P waves. 4. Measure the PR interval. 5. Measure the QRS duration. 6. Identify the rhythm. Knowing the normal waveform makes it much easier to recognize atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, heart blocks, STEMI, and other life-threatening dysrhythmias. 💡 NCLEX tip: Memorize the normal ECG intervals first. A PR interval >0.20 seconds suggests an AV block, while a QRS duration >0.12 seconds points to delayed ventricular conduction, such as a bundle branch block or ventricular rhythm.
