I think really wanting to be a vampire made her extraordinary. She was planning for this for a while, most vampires don’t get that luxury so everyone fawning over her, her feeling beautiful and free of parenting her parents was the first time she’s felt like this.

I kind of see a parallel here in Bella’s life as a child and as a newborn vampire. Like the things that she excels at (namely the self control and control of her gift) are both usually indications of much older vampires. In the same way that I’m sure Bella as a child would have been described as mature for her age, or was able to deal with very adult problems. I feel like Bella’s real gift is parentification and oops I made myself sad

I always thought because she was "mature for her age", it made sense that she skipped the newborn stage since vampirism enhances traits. she is also a rare case that she knew about it ahead of time. most people don't know about vampires until they become one. at the same time, i wish she felt more complete as a human before turning

Not a lot of people have talked about Twilights parallel with “The ugly duckling”. Her name is Bella Swan, literally “Beautiful Swan”. She was never meant to be human the same way the ugly duckling was never meant to be a duck, it was always meant to be a swan.

I had an epiphany about myself like what you’re describing. I suffered with depression for decades. I’m finally medicated and life seems so much easier. I spent so much of my life trying to survive. Who could I have been if I had been medicated earlier? Thankfully I’m not a vampire and there’s still plenty of time for me to grow 🥰

It always made a lot of sense to me for Bella to be so good at being a vampire so quickly. She’s the only one (out of the vampires we really get to know) who had over a year of learning all about vampires and preparing for the Cullen lifestyle before being turned.

This is one of my favorite passages in the entire series. I read these books over and over and over again growing up. Because I saw myself in Bella so deeply. And her finding her place and finally feeling self worth gave me so much hope. As an adult I can recognize how it can be seen as a tragic life trajectory. I think most vampire stories are. But that that inner child/teen me was always team Edward because I was actually Team Bella. Team Bella gets what she wants, her version of her happy ending.

I wish bella had more of a struggle like the rest of the vampires in twlight. She gave up nothing really other then growing old. She still gets to have the experience of being a mother, she gets to keep her dad(although obviously temporary cause eventually shes gonna have to dip when he realizes she isnt aging) she got to keep jacob. She also has a pretty good gift that she was miraculously able to develop fast unlike the other vampires. I love bella as a vampire especially in the movies but i can see how unfair her situation is.
