@cbclife: Heading to the Calgary Stampede? Join @Abigail Oguntimehin as she drives the Cowboy Trail and spotlights three stops that make the grounds hit differently when you finally arrive. 🐴 BAR U RANCH NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE This is Canada's only national historic site dedicated to ranching history and you can plan to spend a day here. George Lane, one of the Big Four who financed the very first Calgary Stampede in 1912, built his ranching empire here, and John Ware, a Black cowboy born enslaved in the United States who became one of Alberta's most celebrated folk heroes, worked this land. 🥩 LONGVIEW JERKY SHOP Twenty minutes south of Bar U in the small town of Longview, this shop has been making its case for the best beef jerky in the world for decades. Flavours worth trying are pepper, sweet and spicy, and maple hickory. 🥃 EAU CLAIRE DISTILLERY On your way back north in Turner Valley, visit the Eau Claire Distillery which operates out of a historic 1929 building. The whisky tasting is $10 for four pours with an experienced bartender who can explain each. It's worth grabbing a seat at the restaurant before the drive home. Pro tips: → Bar U Ranch stops admissions at 4pm sharp. Arrive no later than 3:30pm to give yourself time there and take the wagon shuttle first. It covers the full property and helps you decide where to spend your time on foot. → Eau Claire Distillery opens at 11:30am. Save it for the return drive north. → The Canada Strong Pass gets you free admission at Bar U Ranch from June 19 to September 7, 2026. The Calgary Stampede runs July 3 - 12, 2026. #CalgaryStampede #CowboyTrail #ExploreAlberta #Highway22 Produced in association with CBC Creator Network.
