my current character is a hexblade warlock. at level one my character's sword just looks like a black blade. as he levels up runes begin to appear on the blade, then a red gem appears on the pommel, and then the runes begin to glow red, ect.

My character currently is a draconic sorcerer, they use a scale of bahamut basically attached to their chest as a magic focus, so my idea for level up visual difference is that the scales slowly spread around my body, giving me more draconic features, by the end I’ll look more and more like a dragon till I basically look like a smaller bahamut :)

With my first bard I started him as sort of awkward and wimpy, the way I showed him levelling up was that he gained confidence, played more challenging songs and put on more of a performance, ergo his magic was stronger

Thank you for the custom magic item idea. A staff that grows more powerful as you carve runes into it. +1 for each third of the staff that’s carved. SoH and Arcana checks along with having to spend a couple hours carving. Make it like 45 “slots” that need to be successfully carved, fill a slot each time they make a successful check

I tried this level of roleplay at one table and it just resulted in everyone giving me a weird look. Now I did do it like MadTV Stuart with a," Look what i can do!". Not sure wether they just didnt know the reference or it was just a crap table. I toned down my roleplay after that😅😅
