Do you mean the vet marks up the price of the test or the lab does? I’m already paying to see the vet visit, and the procedure to take the sample and the lab to process it and the shipping back and forth, why do I have to pay the vet a premium over the price of a test that someone else is processing?

why can't all the labs and slides just go directly to CSU from the beginning?

well, I certainly learned something today because I didn’t know what to ask that and I work for a veterinarian so that’s a tidbit. That’ll be helpful for her clients to benefit from.

Shouldn’t a vet hold some slides to be sent for further testing if necessary after preliminary results are known? In human lab medicine we always hold reserves on precious specimens, such as CSF, etc..

For my thyroid, OFA, thyroid, my vet has agreed to pull down the Blood and spin it down for a price and allowing me to ship it. Which saves me about $100.

Our state animal pathology lab lets owners just bring the samples (or animals for necropsy) themselves. I was told by my vet that I could go on a fifteen minute drive to save $2,000 once and I said sure lol.

What? No you are flat out wrong on this. pet parent, do not pay attention to this. she is just wrong. All you need your vet to do is to actually run the test. there is an order form on the CSU website that you hand to your veterinarian and they fill it out and then they hand you the form and the slides and you go to FedEx, and you use the CSU FedEx number that CSU gives you. so it only cost you $15 to ship it, and then CSU gets it and they send you the results and they copy your veterinarian. And yeah, you should pay your veterinarian for the time it took for them to pull the test and also for them to interpret the test results. but sometimes the test results don't have to be interpreted. because it's black and white. either the dog has cancer or the dog does not have cancer. sometimes it's more complicated than that and they do need to be interpreted.
