And for a moment, all I could think about was staying safe and hoping everyone around me would make it through. But beyond my experience, the stories have been heartbreaking. Lives lost. Cars washed away. Homes destroyed. Businesses flooded. Families left trying to pick up the pieces of everything they’ve worked so hard to build. This is no longer about which area was flooded and which area wasn’t. This is a national problem. Because even if the flood didn’t enter your house, chances are it affected someone you know. A friend. A neighbour. A colleague. A relative. Someone’s entire livelihood has been swept away. And the painful part is that this keeps happening. Every year we watch the same disaster unfold. Every year we count losses that could have been prevented. Every year families are forced to start over. This time, I experienced it for myself, and it has changed the way I see things.
