@amillennialmind: Enmeshment isn't always obvious. Sometimes it looks like feeling unable to make a decision without someone else's approval. A powerful conversation on family, boundaries and identity. #familydynamics #Boundaries #indian #enmeshment #Relationships
But why is it wrong to consulting with your parents in major decisions.

If I’m funding your school, then I have a say in what degree you’re getting and where you get it. If I’m funding your house, then I also need to know where it is. If I’m paying for your wedding, then I have input. Period.

These are all huge decisions of a persons life , asking your parents for advice is a privilege that not everyone will get.
I don't see it as controlling at all and hope my daughter will come to me for advice. 100% .

This is soo true! I once got a haircut without telling my mother, she was sooo mad that I didn’t tell her. I was 25 at that time. I didn’t know I needed to tell her. She didn’t speak to me for 2 months

It also sounds like you are the first generation in your household with a louder voice as a women. In our family we’ve been that voice a little earlier as I’m probably nearer your mum’s age than you. What I have learnt that once you become a mother, all these views you have will embed deeper in your decisions. You don’t know that until you become a mother, you can’t relate until you are in that situation. A lot of these opinions you have now will change so much as your children get older. However you’ll explain to your children in a different way and have a better understanding. But I can assure you when your children buy that first house, you will be very involved👌

Indian parents were the CHATGPT for their kids before Chatgpt! They don’t realize the unfair advantage they had from this amazing source of lived in wisdom!

I’m sorry but they are the only 2 people who truly care about you in your life world. They would do anything in thier power for you and they bought you into this world. You are lucky to be given a chance to live and breathe. Your parents are truly the only people that know you and how you are as a person and your characteristics. It’s not controlling it’s more about concerning and that you are making right decisions in life because they have been there and you wouldn’t be where you are in life without their support. They have lived the life of struggle and mistakes over the years.
