I understand that the first 5 seasons are undeniably better but I think the decline in quality is also very rich for analysis. I could talk for hours about how continuing to live makes the Winchesters less human and turns them into the monsters they spent their lives fighting and how the show shifted from the boys being in this world to the boys being the center of it.

I watched it for the first time after like 20 years of my friend telling me how good it was. Nobody warned me how many similarities it had to Arthurian legends and the side characters have heavy overlap with Arthurian knights of Camelot.

I try to think of 1-5 as a standalone show and 5-15 as a spinoff. While not as good, it expands on the canon lore. People also forget that it was made in the 2000's. It paved the way for so many things. it helped create Tumblr, fandoms, put fresh faces on screens. There's still time for another amazing series to come out, but they'll have to tip their hat to spn for making it possible.

The mythological lore of their cases were phenomenal. It was okay when it became theological but the cases were the best!

As much as I love Supernatural and some moments from the later 10 seasons. If it had ended with season 5 it may have went down as one of the Greatest shows of the era. It still maybe, but we had a major exchange of quality for quantity and it never found its footing again in my opinion.

Do you talk about the sudden shift in how Sam went from an important character in seasons 1-2, to becoming a sidekick to Dean in seasons 3-5? Not to mention how it becomes even more prevalent later on with Cas and Dean becoming even more important to the plot while Sam is just kinda there. Even when being Lucifer's true vessel in S5 and being soulless in S6, he wasn't really that integral to the plot since it all really revolved around Dean and how he dealt with the situations.

As someone whose academic background is in fandom I can say that the way the show co-created with its fans is unheard of. Going from Becky to Charlie to the musical episode where Dean gives creative control and permission to the fans is insane
