The Rise and Fall of King Von – A Chicago Legend Gone Too Soon Dayvon Daquan Bennett, known to the world as King Von, was more than just a rapper. He was a storyteller, a product of the streets of Chicago, and a voice of the trenches. Born on August 9, 1994, and raised in the infamous O’Block, King Von’s life was a raw reflection of the struggles, violence, loyalty, and dreams of so many young Black men growing up in poverty-stricken neighborhoods. He was a close associate of Lil Durk and a member of the Only The Family (OTF) collective. Von started rapping after spending time in jail, where he began crafting lyrics based on his real-life experiences. His music was gritty, authentic, and deeply personal. His breakout hit “Crazy Story” put him on the map in 2018 and drew attention for its vivid, cinematic storytelling. Von wasn’t just rapping—he was narrating scenes like a movie, pulling you into every bar, every line, every moment of tension. What made Von different was his ability to blend raw street tales with charisma and lyrical finesse. Songs like Took Her to the O, 3 A.M., and Why He Told weren’t just hits—they were windows into the life of someone who had lived the realities many only pretend to understand.
