@thatcaulkinggirl: If you told me a year ago I’d be starting from square one in a brand new trade after 13 years of doing the exact same thing, I probably would’ve laughed. It’s intimidating being the rookie again, especially as a woman on site. When the guys you work with actually want to see you win, pass down their knowledge, and share the secrets to the trade? Shoutout to the real ones on site who choose mentorship over gatekeeping 🔥 🔨 #construction #carpenter #fyp
its the "idk" at the end 😂 like I'll teach you but I don't want to insult you either 🤣

90% of construction work is just knowing these random little tricks. I swear I learn a life changing trick like once a week and I’m going on 7 years. This for instance is a new one

I work alone a lot, make yourself a “3rd hand” two pieces of the same thickness cut the exact same. Third piece cut 4-5” shorter. Short piece in the middle sandwiched between. Nail it off. Start your cut and get far enough away you can slide your hand in to hold the two pieces together

I usually cut right on the stack avoids this issue completely. As long as the sheets are bottom up you can set the depth damn near perfect and barely leave a mark, or just push it off the side of the stack and stand on the bigger end while you cut it

It’s nice when you tell someone a trick you learned and they actually use it instead of just going back to what they were doing before and continuing to struggle

Can also just go real fast at the end, or cut like 4” on one side then start the cut from the other side, but this trick seems decent.
