Hot take: the reason applications require SO MUCH additional information and the skill interviews/take home assignments drag on for months is because employers expect you to already know everything since there is no more training time on the jobs. Either you're the perfect niche candidate or they won't even consider you.

135 applications from August 2024 to December 2025; 88 applications so far this year. Have a spreadsheet of the position, company, what version of my resume I used, if I included a cover letter, etc. I think overall I’ve gotten 7 interviews. I have 10 years of experience between legal and business operations roles, an associates in a STEM field and going back for a bachelors in the fall because this job market is actually 🤪

I’m at 150 applications after being made redundant. One of them the hiring manager was my LITERAL REFERENCE and I still didn’t get a call back. Another I’d done the exact same role at the competitor, no response. Another I went through an 8 week process of interviews, strategy presentations etc only to miss out at the last step because they didn’t want someone from a different industry. It’s INSANE!

When I was job seeking. LinkedIn was top tier - resume on point... skilled and experienced… Applied to over 1000 companies. I got 4 interviews.. to be offered 40k a year like it was a gift!.. I was not applying for entry level.
