That’s yellow pine it will move standing still. The way to stop it from moving is put a 4x4 under the front sack and a 4x4 under the rear of the rear stack. Make a bowl it want move. Yellow pine is slick as glass

15-year flatbetter here, 15 years of hauling pine 2x4s just like this. I call it the "house effect" and you can see that top bundle is actually secured very tight, to the point where the top row of 2x4s are still there but the middle came out. this happens because when you tighten the bundle up all the pressure goes down the sides, and across the top and the bottom, putting no pressure on the middle of the bundle to keep it secure. there's three things you can do to help stop this from happening: 1. tightly tarp the lumber. The tart needs to secure the front and back of all bundles, in this case you would need to throw a strap on the outside of the tart at the front and back of the bundle. 2. put it 2x4 under the front and back of the load, that won't necessarily stop the middles from coming out, but it will help them settle back in if they start to come out. It won't help that top bundle though. 3. The only way to truly prevent it from happening is you need to put a strap across the middle of the bundle. usually known as cross strapping or x strapping, wrap a strap around the side of the bundle across the face and right in the middle on top, this forces the middle of the bundle downward, putting pressure on the inside, breaking the tension across the top row. . 15 years and I've had this happen one time and I learned my lesson.

I’m surprised it’s not tarped. When I pull lumber I don’t stop lol, I go slow and steady and If I have to I’ll run 100 lights before I ever slam on the breaks and this is why.

this is why you always throw a tarp over the top even when you dont want to. thats why most of the time youre asked to tarp them it isnt to protect the lumber from weather but to prevent boards from sliding out

Been there done that but I lost a bunk onto the street, thank goodness for some BNSF guys that helped me load it back up. Needles CA.

It’s because of plastic banding. The old metal strapping on the bundles squeezed them tighter. I check every bundle before they load it. If I can push any boards in the center. I make them rebrand it.

Put a 4/4 in the middle of the bundle about 4’ turn or sideways so it pulls the center down! 42 years trucking!!
