As a gen x? Why did I have to wear hose and a skirt to a job in accounting office

I'm still very much for dress codes. Need to be realistic about how society is.

Older boyfriends. When I was 13 most of the girls at my school had boyfriends 16-18 years old with cars and we all thought it was so cool. Then at 16-17 we all had boyfriends in their 20s. Looking back that wasn't ok.

What about the nylons? Why did we have to constantly cover our legs? Slips? Why did we need slips?

As a parent and a teacher, I don't comment on clothing or bodies. I really dislike dress codes in general and will never code a kid in my class.

I’m an elder millennial, but I hated how cool it was to put down other women back then. Love that we’re pushing for girl’s girls more every day!

I am 43 years old and within the last 20 years, I have finally realized that it wasn’t my fault. It wasn’t what I was wearing or not wearing. My bra strap didn’t matter, my shorts didn’t matter, my sweatpants didn’t matter. Each time it happened I was wearing something different and it never mattered.

Graduated law school in ‘99 and interviewing with various prosecutor offices, I learned some judges did not “allow” women to wear pantsuits in their courtrooms. Keep in mind many offices still had blue/black/gray suit colors for BOTH men and women, but forcing women to wear skirts?!? Yep, you heard that right 😳😳😳

I don't know if I would agree with you about that I don't know if it's about other people's comfort I think it's about having decorum. I think what a lot of people fail to have is character and the way you dress speaks volumes of your character and your upbringing. and a lot of times the way we dress does give us unwanted attention so we have to really ask ourselves what are we looking for it's not about outside it's about inside. I'm genx but I think it's about having some sort of responsibility and respect for yourself.

Closed toe shoes and panty hose and two piece tops. Like a shirt and sweater. Shirt and jacket. I was an executive assistant no one ever saw.

the reason to wear shorts or a skirt close to knee length is because when you sit the length halves. Also all the desk had plastic seats and thighs would sweat all over it and be yucky.

I'm a Gen X lady with long legs and so I have decades of hearing about skirt length. I even had a boss hold a ruler up to my legs to measure my skirt more than once. I can't help my body's geometry and was always so confused because I have always been very unsexy-presenting. I mean, what on earth is the threat?

My private school shamed me bc my skirt was too short bc I had a massive growth spurt. My mom transferred me to public school. I’m glad she did. I’m also glad panty hose and slips went out of style!

My daughter was voted "most likely to be out of dress code" in high school. I told the school to stop calling me: it was a problem THEY had with HER, I was not involved.

I do think there should be a generic dress code, but it should apply to both boys and girls. Everywhere you go as an adult has some sort of a dress code. I always ask my kids if they will be able to comfortably participate in the activity, all skin is protected from injury, or are they afraid they will have a wardrobe malfunction? Our school dress code is pretty lax and basically covers those things plus has a line about profanity on clothing.

As a fifth grade teacher I ask two questions about clothing 1 do you love what you are wearing? 2 Do you feel like you or are you comfortable. That’s it

in my mind school is the "business" of children, therefore business attire is appropriate. I think uniforms are so much easier. don't have to have a different outfit every day.
