you're never ready.. my kids are grown.. family's.. soccer games and softball teams.. etc.. their lives are full.. my wife has been in heaven for too long now.. im the extended family now

It is important to develop hobbies, interests, etc. that you own and identify with. They are not substitutes, but are complementary to you life as life's seasons change. IMO, one of the hardest seasons is in front of you. as far as kids go, it's them establishing their own autonomy where they can survive, hopefully thrive, without you. You may find being extended family is good.
