the problem was that it even got to a shootout. and even then, Neuer wasn't the problem with a 33% save rate. it was the 50% conversion rate when that should be 76% even during high-pressure shootouts when compared to the international average and at 85.7% for germany's wc history. they missed more yesterday than they've missed in their entire wc history (2 out of 14)

Your point stands firm in isolation but Germany's loss today was not simply down to Neuer, 3, THREE German players missed, either saved or blasted it over. even a specialist goalkeeper rarely saves 3 penalties, so today's result wouldn't have changed. the blame is more on how they played on the pitch in general, and of course the penalty misses, in my humble opinion

Neuer isn't at world class anymore but he isn't one of the 3 guys that missed penalties though. it's not on him. Germany struggled with ivory coast Ecuador and Paraguay. If you're a big name struggling with those teams then there's bigger problems than a goalie past his best.
