It's allowed me to go with my creativity. so I had creativity and I could not do much with the ideas. now I can execute those ideas

I'm AuDHD and I've been profoundly creative all my life, but have struggled with follow through when having to prepare for the creativity to happen (like buying fabric, setting up the machine, making patterns for sewing, etc etc). I've also struggled with having too many ideas, and getting overstimulated before being able to start any, and then getting understimulated by the creative paralisys. Meds have actually given me the capacity to follow through with the creative ideas I get in a more organized manner, and have helped with both the setup, and putting away of the systems I need to get creating.

Having gone through college for a BA degree totally unmedicated, vs now being medicated, there is definitely a difference. However the difference is I am more motivated to start and stay with projects. I do notice a slight increase in divergent thinking but I think that is more of a result of "critical mass" of creativity as one of my professors called it. The more you do, the easier it becomes.

I just went off meds for a few months because of cost reasons and I felt so much less creative because I couldn't *do* things. I was barely getting myself to the bare minimum. I couldn't even really consume art (couldn't read, play video games, watch movies) only doom scroll or do things that friends invited me to do. I've been back on meds for like, 4 days and I've already started writing again.

Me personally, I think losing a little creativity was worth losing a decent amount of impulsivity and compulsivity. neither are gone completely, I'm able to focus on my current task without thinking about too many things at once and I'm not stealing anymore or over consuming purchases as much. Worth it

Just have trouble eating and drinking enough water on Vyvanse. Other than that I’m great. And my hyper focus isn’t as intense which I miss too but worth it. And I comment on way too many TikTok’s haha.

I found myself struggling to write when I first started the meds. I didn’t reverb realise that was creativity since it was just for uni, but I’ve always just had the right sentences and words pop into my head. When I started the meds, I remember once rewriting the same sentence over several pages in slightly different configurations because I couldn’t rearrange it in my head or visualise which one would be best

I think it feels like losing creativity, because all ideas come from nowhere on meds, without them u have to create all thoughts
at first I was sure I lost all creativity
I had to learn to trust my mind, without the possibility to control it

This is just my anecdotal experience, but meds made me more able to engage in my many creative hobbies. I’ve always been creative but I couldn’t sustain my attention enough to fully realize that creativity before.

I think making me "less creative" is just that I can actually do a task I need to when medicated, and so will do that instead of diving into a creative project.
Whereas unmedicated, I often can't overcome the task avoidance of practical tasks, and will use enjoyable activities (which for me is creative things) to avoid the practical tasks I need to do.
So it's important for me to try and allocate time for creative things back into my schedule or I get too into "doing" mode.
Also my brain favours categories, organising, and movement when on my meds, so "work" tasks like cleaning and organising appeal to me more than sitting and creating.

My Vyvanse makes me more creative. I think it’s b/c I can actually process more inputs without crashing into fatigue. I had one mood stabilizer in my early 20s ruin my creativity, but it started to come back once I was on my final dose for about six weeks, and after about another three months I was back to normal. But I took a mood stabilizer due to a chronic lack of sleep (undx’d narcolepsy), so it could totally have a different impact on someone with a true mood disorder.
