Update on the Panleuk kittens: Everyone is doing great! They’ll continue to be isolated for up to 4 more weeks. I hate keeping them cooped up. They’re kittens, they should be playing. But it’s for everyone’s sake. This virus is a nasty one. Even after symptoms are gone it continues to be shed in their poop for up to 6 weeks. It’s also hard to kill and can live on surfaces in the house for up to a year. Bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide based cleaners like Rescue are the only things that kill it. So anything that they’ve come in contact with for the next month either has to be thoroughly cleaned with a proper cleaner or thrown out if it can’t be bleached. This includes bedding, cages, toys, bowls, and even my clothes when I pick them up. This could absolutely effect new babies we bring in months down the line so we need to be very careful. Our resident cats are up to date on vaccines and have shown no signs of infection so fingers crossed they’re good. #fosterkittens #kittensoftiktok #bottlefeeding #panoleukopenia #spayandneuter
