There’s times when I wish I could be like the psalmist, where I’m able to pour out these intense emotions of mine as I stumble down this path of sincere devotion to the Lord. But it’s different when it doesn’t feel like I betrayed God but rather that he betrayed me, that I’m not the one who strayed but rather he’s the one who turned away. I find myself feeling so deceived and alone in a world where you see the wicked thrive and favor and fortune being given to them them while you suffer through your years by placing faith in the Lord, takes deep root in me. It’s not from a place of jealousy nor from admiration. It’s a hollow kind of wonder. Wondering how my desires are the bottom of his list, how my patience, faith and love, all these parts of me I laid bare, still hasn’t taken me nowhere while their betrayal, dishonesty and disloyalty took them everywhere, success a person like me could only dream of. I feel like that’s why it’s so hard for me to fully return to him, because am I setting myself up for more pain in the name of faith and that things will actually get better? I don’t know how to hold on when it feels like every prayer of mine is an echo and feeling so caught up between wanting to believe and being afraid to.
