@handtherapy4all: If you’ve been having pain on the thumb side of your wrist, this could be why. The 1st extensor compartment is a small tunnel where two thumb tendons pass. When the tunnel becomes too tight or irritated, the tendons can’t glide normally. Every movement can create more friction, leading to pain which can be a condition known as De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. One of the first treatments is often a thumb spica splint to help reduce irritation while the tendons calm down. If conservative treatment doesn’t relieve symptoms, surgery may be recommended to release the compartment and give the tendons more room. I’ll break down that procedure in the next video. ⚠️ Educational purposes only. This video is for education and should not be used as medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. I broke my arm last year right below the shoulder joint so they decided to put steel and bolts in my arm. after 9 months of physiotherapy there was improvement but I haven't gotten any improvements since, currently my fingers can't fully extend and my thumb can't lift up to do a thumbs up but it can bend down. when I try to open my fingers I can feel the muscles/nerves or whatever give resistance against the steel.
