@github.awesome: Robot vacuums are usually black boxes: cloud apps, locked firmware, and hardware you can’t really fix. oomwoo is an open-source robot vacuum you build yourself, with Raspberry Pi, ROS2, Home Assistant, 2D LiDAR, ESP32, Arduino, and a 3D-printable chassis. The honest part: it’s still design-stage, with the first bill of materials and build docs being validated. That makes it more interesting, not less. #github #opensource

"Build yourself with: Raspberry pi, Ros2, esp32, Arduino, lidar,..." That's some nonsensical keyword bingo going on here.

I‘m not going to buy a cleaning robot that sends all it data to external servers. Nuh-uh. Not gonna happen. Not even if I could technically flash a new firmware and/or block certain network connections. These companies don‘t deserve any of our money.

So it ends up costing 100x the price of actual robot vacuum. What happened to Valetudo ?

My old Roombas don't have "smart" features, in-fact it's incredibly stupid, but it works fine for a dumpster find robot 🤷

this is Ai. 2 of 3 contributors on GitHub are Ai agents. The shown robot rendering doesn't even make sense if you want to 3d print parts. And I get this shown everywhere, so someone is boosting the visibility of this WHILE HAVING NOTHING TO SHOW besides an AI generated pitch.

I once thought of using broken Dyson V6/7/8 for something similar. People throw them away all the time, because of the battery breaking. These still have Fantasic Motors you can use for Parts. OR just Slap a Drill battery adapter on it
