I was taught the coefficient of thermal expansion of amalgam was closer to natural tooth structure than composite. Not as good as ceramic, but still better than other direct restorations. Thoughts?

You replace all silver fillings that are over ten years old? That philosophy gives dentists a bad rap. A well planned and proper amalgam will last forever. Those multi cusped amalgams are not ideal.

Yup it happened to my emergency patient this morning, multiple root fractures with a DL cusp fracture extending below the gumline 🤦♀️

okay no offense but stop. this is situationally dependent just like everything else do you have a small amount of is it in a back tooth is it causing any problems do you have an amalgam taking up the majority of your Denton then yeah it'll crack like that depends on the size the surfaces etc
