One of the consequences of the historically low inflation period that previously existed was thar we all grew complacent about wage increases. If the companies for whom we were working short changed us by a point or so versus inflation, it wasn't that big a deal. As a result we have an entire generation of workers who have not had to worry (as much) about how inflation has been eroding their purchasing power and are unaccustomed to pushing for appropriate wage increases.
