@prideoftlingits: If you wouldn’t do this trend around items sacred to your family, then recognize how inappropriate it is to do around totem poles sacred to my family and Indigenous relatives. Please listen to the Native people and the Tribes who have made statements on this. Our Kootéeyaa (totem poles) are sacred to our peoples, each with a unique story and history. This trending behavior is sad, frustrating, and unacceptable. Alaska Native peoples have worked diligently to reclaim our culture and have pride in our identities after hundreds of years of genocide, oppression, discrimination, and harmful stereotypes like this one that desecrate our sacred objects. If you don’t see a problem with this trend, then please work to educate yourself on how extremely disrespectful this behavior is. If you do see the problem, then please speak out and be our allies in educating against this behavior. Gunalchéesh - Thank you. . . . I raise my hands to @Jackson Pearson for his powerful words and to all of our Indigenous relatives and our allies for using their voices to call this out and educate those who are willing to learn and do better 🖤🙌🏽❤️ #Nativetok #trending #AlaskaNative #fyp #Totem @Sealaska @Tlingit_Haida

I’m not even native and i honestly feel offended on y’all’s behalf seeing stuff like this. We should always respect each other’s cultures especially when those cultures have experienced a long history of oppression and erasure. I’ve wanted to visit Alaska for a long time and if I do I’d love to see more about Alaskan native culture directly and engage with it respectfully.

Each and every Totem Pole tells a story of family, crests, achievements.
Totem Poles are up and down the Pacific Coast from Alaska down to Washington State and the Coast up the Skeena River ( Up the Line ).

Your words and message is good and right. I don’t think it’s necessary to add so much of the disrespectful clips. No need to keep showing it.

I love Alaska so much. I lived there as a child and I’ve always had so much adoration for such a magnificent, historically and culturally rich place.

I find people unwilling to acknowledge harm there actions cause if harm was not there intention, "its the intention that matters" has been ingrained in people.
Its time to look at the consequences of our actions! your intent is only seen by you, others only see your actions
