I felt this with my heart 100%. I literally strive to pay back the sheer amount my parents have given me, but I know the amount can never equate to the amount they have given me. Its always in the back of my mind that I can never give the same back. The guilt it real. Im just trying to become the person they always wanted me to be, someone who's is able to take care of myself financially, health and all. Its depressing thinking that im not there yet

I kinda feel like thats the cost of being a parent, and we are supposed to do the same for our children. I dont feel guilty for not repaying in full. Kinda because its not practical, as well as i wouldn't expect my kids to pay me back. You give to your kids what they need because you care. And then go on to do the same. Even the slightest expectation of Debt is the worst thing you could give them. Its selfish, and it teaches them to do so going forward as well

I think you have the wrong mindset here because the best way to repay your parents is by using what they've taught you to succeed and be happy in life. Think about it from your parents perspective. When you're a mom, will you expect your child to repay you?

I recently bought my parents a house and I get my word over my ear are struggling with personal things. I stopped dating. I stopped hanging out. I was bartending and I worked at myself career a birthday gift to myself. July was getting out of the neighborhood that was never safe to live in the first place. They were the best.

im not asian, but i can tell you based on what I go through in my life.. regardless mistakes, or bad decisions... no matter how hard I try to do everything by myself.... my parents still are there for me... knowing the sacrifices they made for me, even im trying to do it by myself... just by uplifting the weight off your back.. can never pay back of how many they got me out of situations... yea I always think about that. so I agree❤️💯

It’s easy for me to feel this bc one of my parents did so much for me. I was told whether my guilt was justified or not was based on my intention. If I did not intend a negative outcome, guilt as a reaction was not a responsibility for me to bear.

be kind to yourself. it'll get worse if your parents get to retirement age but haven't saved enough for retirement because of all those sacrifices they made. then you'll be taking care of your parents while simultaneously saving for your own retirement and providing for your own kids. the pressure will be immense. I've decided to end the generational burden by not having kids 😅 i can't take care of my parents, save for my own retirement AND provide for a child. had to cut one of those out.

It’s not really about paying them back like we think. It’s about the effort and willingness to do so. It’s the character that you do it with. It shows the appreciation and recognition of their sacrifice. Yes, there’s an overwhelming pressure to repay, but they also went through the same situation regardless if the economy was not in their favor.
